What you are suggesting has been tried many years ago on a now dead site that used to be called Yu-Gi-OhDungeon, but all that it done was make members static IP's and remake accounts, even the unwanted and bad, bringing about a return of all that had been going on before the nuke of the forum that during its prime had a large member base itself. All that it really caused was over the course of time was mass members leaving the site, until it ultimately as Duel-Forums finally died completely due to lack of interest in a a forum that had betrayed it original members who had staffed and built up the forums reputation.

The disapproval of one admin out of four is not the final say, Sean.

It only takes one person to make a decision, and then others will follow.

Oh, and if your main issue is with OT...no one really cares that much. Just remove it. There, problem solved.

I know his point. Its eliminating stupid, and his way is just about as smart as anyone from Pojo.

www.Pojo.com

That core has been weak for years, yet you see no nukes.

Oh wait, they aren't as organized as we are.

Deleting everything isn't the solution. ETC has been and will always be home to whoever wants to make it their home. I'm not interested in playing god and choosing who gets to post and who doesn't. How would a fresh start change anything? The members are still going to be the same members, and different usernames aren't going to change anything. I don't think banning anybody who slips up is the solution either, because everybody slips up and posts dumb sometimes. Excellent posting/great grammar/thought provoking opinions aren't requirements to join this board. At the end of the day, the forum is what you make it.

Then my apologies, that is not my goal.

The idea of 'nuking' removes the problems of the current and of the past, so that the future doesn't deal with it. It's been shown SEVERAL times that the current members have no regards for the rules, and will do anything they want as there are no repercussions to them. They find it amusing to be warned. Their account gets banned, they make an imp account. They get IP banned, they do a static IP and post again (I have seen this, several times when I was admin).

You can't nuke OT and expect anything to change. You can't start warning and banning and expect anything to change. If anything, people will out-lash the staff, alienating them and making them look worse. Likewise, famous posters (new or old) run the site more than the staff do. People side with someone because of a post count or a name.

Now, you ban IPs, e-mails, then delete the accounts, you do several things. One, you clear up a small chunk of information that has been lingering here for six years. You get rid of those server errors because information is slowed down. You free up usernames, remove clutter, and have a chance to get the site cleaned up and everything modified.

Next, you show that there are ramifications to people breaking the rules. Even if people static IP and come back, they'll know that the staff is not afraid of removing EVERYTHING to fix things. It lets people know that you can get punished. And when a few ruining it for everyone, they will be the ones looked at.

Someone mentioned earlier the trades dilemma. You have their addresses on file. If you don't, why did you accept to trade? In the start, you get their contact information and you SAVE IT OUTSIDE THE SITE. If the site crashed, you're screwed. Save it to the computer, and have a seperate physical copy saved. Write down what was being traded, and contact the member. This is common sense people.

And to my earlier comment of people following others for a tag, that is the reason I posted this. Everyone knows what I am saying is not absurd, or ridiculous. But, if a random suggests it, they'll just get flamed (which is against the rules too, but I digress). I posted it so that people would actually read it, and consider it. They choose what they think, and give their input. PC, Plato, Shadow, and others have done a good job of that.

And my reason for adding 'Hall of Fame' is not selfish. Most of the members of the HoF are former admins themselves. They have worked on this site, know how it functions, and can be used and called upon to HELP the site if need be. The rest are inactive, and removing them is little-to-useless in comparasion to the other half.

Not all of the moderators are inactive nor do they fail to moderate things. It is not fair to put trade moderators into your mix. If anything, we do more work than any mods on the site as it has always been the busiest section of all. Your idea of keeping moderators is ridiculous also. There are no MODERATORS. Every moderator has a tag for their section. As far as the members, a few could warrant a ban, but not all. As far as nuking the site, stupid idea. You can not learn from the past if the history is not there to see. You learn from mistakes. The archives need to be there for people to see so they do not make the same mistakes that past members, staff, etc. have made. That's is my 2 cents on the issue.
Thanks to Lightman44 for being my 400th ref and the first winner of the ref contest. Keep those trades and middleman trades coming. Current count 451 refs.

I haven't read the past 3 pages, but couldn't you just add the 20 or so people you want to keep on AIM?

Nuking the board isn't going to make it better. Also, this probably doesn't mean anything, but mods have actually made worse topics and posts than members before.

Derek, there's nothing you can do. This place is sinking.

No, I'm being too generous. It's not sinking. It's sunk, and the people that didn't drown grew gills.

Edit: Reading the comments in the thread, it's become apparent that the people who don't want this to go through, are part of the problem, as sorry as it is. However, without a clear definition of what the problem is, I fear this may short sighted.

That being said, I'm all for it. I'll stock up on canned peaches and spam.

The Feynman Problem Solving Algorithm:
1) Write down the problem.
2) Think very hard.
3) Write down the solution.

I have seen this happen on another site but it was when the owner went bad and nuked the place for fun but guess what the members did (one person had a backdoor key) is took over the site and built it over from scratch and it booming with members (not from nukes). This topic reminds me of hitler but first we debate if the (concentration camps of mostly innocent members). Also what about the other 6 million people who are not members on this site who are trying to join. Welcome to yugioh etc holocaust.

Comparing me to Hitler and this to the act of the Holocaust is pretty sad, sir. Nothing even remotely close.

Good game guy.
