On the second SS it already shows a blank screen, so the problem is before that.
Try importing another video, try a short one, if it works try another 500 frame import.
try importing a short video cause I just tried on psc4, tried importing a whole movie and it also shows a blank screen.

yea. i had like a 2 minute video i nabbed off youtube and after i imported a portion of it, it didnt even say large file or anything, it was only like 250 frames for about 30 secs.. and it still shown a blank.. maybe its the type of file, it cant show the image.
edit, jut looked up yahoo answers, heres what they said:
so apparently photoshop cs3-cs4 doesnt matter, cant edit frames of avi or other movie files. just things like animated gifs.
you have to get like adobe premiere pro cs4... or the adobe creative suite that just covers every damn adobe program they've made.

You're using the wrong tool. Photoshop can't do this for you, but something like Adobe GoLive, Premiere or After Effects can.
Even with the right tool, you may well find that you can't edit the file: some AVI's are locked specifically to prevent just this sort of thing happening. Doesn't happen often, but is worth bearing in mind.

I use hypercam and record whatever video I want and imported using PS and it works.
get hypercam and record the portion you need.
the videos are locked or w/e then cause I've done this lots of times but with videos recorded using hypercam. Like my avvy.

is there a certain setting you set your cam to record vids because i play my avi file on windows media player and my vlc player, but when i record it the file plays back as just a black screen. i tried total screen recorder, same thing.. but they said to turn your hardware acceleration of your computer down, it would record avi's, which is true... but the quality is horrible.
